i~~we: i is not not we.
Paul LeRoy Gehres A.K.A. leroy indiana
knowledge was power. seeing was believing. the postnineeleven world is cluttered with the debris of western culture. the grand narratives have all been deconstructed. universals and absolutes have been abolished.
reconstruction is the new deconstruction!
rebuilding begins with the self claiming ownership of personal ultimates.
your deconstruction may be my reconstruction and vice versa. i reveal my process of recycling and reorganizing by creating a visual theme park of research in my mfa thesis exhibition, i~~we: i is not not we.
within the installation i decorated with the epherema of my research, cluttering 100% handmade fine art and altered readymades on combines. in the process of creating this work i explore excess, the contemporary condition of sensory bombardment, excess, marketing as identity, excess, commodity, excess, ego deflation, excess, phenomenology, excess, existentialism, excess, gender issues, excess, politics, excess, my intuition, and excess.
Andy Warhol is my hero! John Waters, Susan Sontag and Charles Ludlum are my influences for the ridiculous sensibility that focuses the excessive, unfinished, lowdown clutter i create.
my work is a humorous rift on my place in the art world and on the world stage. i am america’s oldest emerging mfa artist.
